At the Bliss Hotel, we have strived to turn something subjective into something definite.
A search for best golf breaks in the UK has always brought up many results, and led to the need to compromise.
Do you choose the best hotel or the best course? How important is location? What about when you want to relax and unwind, can you accept having a wonderful day’s golf slightly spoilt by having to then dine in a lacklustre hotel restaurant, or charmless bar?
We don’t believe in compromise. We believe the best golf break in the UK has to deliver on every front, from the moment of check-in to the final departure, everything should contribute to creating a wonderful whole, a golfing break like no other.
We will explain why the Bliss Hotel stands apart a little lower down this page, but we must first focus on the golf, after all that is central to your break.
World Leading Courses
We are located in Southport, on what you may well know is referred to as the UK’s Golf Coast.
Nowhere else will you find the same concentration of Championship courses.
The courses include Southport and Ainsdale, Formby and Hillside, all truly wonderful courses and you can play them all, but one course stands apart even from these.
Royal Birkdale is the finest course in England and one of the world’s truly great courses.
Playing 18 holes at Royal Birkdale is on any true golfer’s bucket list (but why stop at 18 – you can have up to 72 holes of golf with our packages – this for the serious golfer).
The course has been voted the number one club in England and inside the top 50 globally, its status is such that it has held more Championships and International events since World War Two than any other course in the world.
Royal Birkdale is to golf what Wimbledon is to tennis, Lords’ is to cricket or Wembley is to football.
The difference is that you and your friends can experience playing there for yourself.
We provide golfing breaks that cater to all. There are breaks that see you play two rounds on stunning courses with one overnight stay – this is an affordable option that sees only a couple of days taken out of your schedule.
For those who want a break to remember but perhaps feel a tad intimidated at the thought of playing a championship course such as Royal Birkdale, you can play up to four rounds on some of the region’s more forgiving courses, with evenings spent unwinding on our rooftop terrace.
The ultimate however is our ‘˜Fore of the Best’ – four rounds on the region’s top courses, Royal Birkdale included of course, and three nights in the Bliss Hotel.
Given the cost of booking just a single round on one of these courses independently, our breaks also offer superb value for money.
As anyone who has been on the Royal Birkdale site will know, you are looking at hundreds of pounds per round even for the most anti-social of tee times.
A Golf Break That’s More Than Golf
That the Golf Coast has the finest concentration of superb courses in the UK is not in doubt. The golf sells itself.
However, you do not want to enjoy stunning golf but then return to a shabby hotel. Your golf break should not be a huge contrast between wonderful time out on the links, mediocre time post round.
The 19th hole has to be as good as the preceding 18.
We understand golf and golfers, that’s why we established the Bliss Hotel in Southport and specialise in golf breaks.
Our Bliss Bar and Roof Garden has views that stretch for miles, you can soak up the sun and rest and relax – chatting about THAT approach on the 12th and trying to shut down any talk about THAT putt on the 18th. In front of the members too.
Whether beer is your go-to drink, or a G&T or maybe something from the cocktail menu, you will find our bar to be well-stocked and fairly priced.
Our location is such that there are plenty of eateries nearby too and you may want to dine at a famous course.
Our Bliss Kitchen should be considered too though – the restaurant has been recently refurbished while our team of chefs serve up a menu considered by many to be the finest in Southport.
Breakfasts are delicious and hearty – you need your English breakfast before heading off for the day’s round.
Relax in Luxury
On any golf break, post round, and feeling happily fed, there comes a time when you wander off contentedly to your room.
At Bliss Hotel, this is not a plain room, devoid of character, it is a room that mixes luxury with individuality.
It is our belief that hotels have become too drab, too identical, too devoid of personality.
Equally, a hotel should not be zany, or crazy.
There has to be a middle ground – individual, yet stunning, innovative yet relaxing.
We used our industry knowledge to create just that blend.
Reviews show we are getting it right.
We average 9/10 on Booking.com, have a 91% positive rating on MyHotelBreak and 90% of our Google reviews are for four and five stars. This is from thousands of reviews too, not a small, select sampler.
We aren’t solely the best hotel for golf breaks in the region, we are the best hotel full stop.
Inside Bliss Hotel, the art deco architecture and stylish interior sets the scene for what will be a memorable stay in lavish yet intimate spaces, sumptuous bedrooms and palatial penthouses.
Did we mention that we do things a bit differently – we even have a room service robot called Betty, who’s at your beck and call. She is built to serve. Literally.
Whereas some hotels, even those among the best, have a few shabby corners and a few areas in need of a makeover, we are close to being brand new, our doors only opening for the first time in 2018.
What views from those doors too – we offer 180 degree views of the Irish Sea from our Waterfront complex setting.
Out and About
With all that time on course and then post-round relaxation you may not have much time for wandering further afield. However, if you do want to explore there is plenty to see.
Southport has a charming centre, with many independent shops and arcades, it is a town with a unique style, for instance Victorian Wrought Iron canopies and the tree-lined lord Street.
Stunning beaches await you at Crosby, Formby and Ainsdale – all part of 22 miles of coastline, perfect for those who enjoy jogging or cycling.
Nearby, you have both Liverpool and Manchester – your golfing break could incorporate seeing a concert or show in one of these famous cities
If you do manage to find time for extracurricular activities there is everything from Formby Red Squirrel reserve and the 17 acres of Kings Gardens through to paddleboarding and kitesurfing nearby.
